VISUAL ARTISTS OF WELLAND - MEMBER
Jill was born and raised in the village of Fenwick, in the heart of the Niagara Peninsula. Her childhood was spent roaming the orchards and woodlots, on foot or on horseback, in a pack of cousins, friends, and dogs. A love of our natural world — landscapes, birds, plants, and animals — developed through living here and spending time in northern Ontario. She spent her career teaching primary students in Muskoka, Sudbury, and London, ON.
Jill is very fortunate to live on the rural country property now where she grew up. Every time she steps outside, Jill discovers a new idea for a painting.
Her artwork is inspired by the way that shadow dapples the landscape in a myriad of shapes and affects the colour of objects. Jill creates works in acrylic, oil, pastel and mixed media. Subjects are varied, including architecture, nature, and portraiture. As an active member of the Pelham Art Association, Jill participates in weekly classes with a professional artist and workshops with visiting artists, always striving to improve her craft.
Jill currently has a display on the Welland Wall of Art at Civic Square until July 5. Check out the fantastic article in Niagara This Week by Sarah Ferguson: https://www.niagarathisweek.com/community-story/9336847-fenwick-artist-inspired-by-her-own-back-yard/
